Works in Porcelain by Marsha Silverman
The work on this site represents my interest in porcelain both as the forming medium and as the surface for the application of crystalline glazes. There are several kinds of work on the site.
I have just added 45 Years of Pots—A Retrospective 1965-2012 (21MB). The slide show includes work from my school years beginning in 1965, through today. Included are over 100 pieces plus images of my kilns and studio in Miami.
The current work is primarily wheel-thrown and glazed with matte crystalline or microcrystalline glazes. Some of the pieces are altered into natural forms. The archival work is primarily thrown and altered seed pods and petal bowls. Additionally there are carved bottles and teapots.
From time to time I go back to my beginnings and at the request of friends and family do a run of utilitarian pieces - tableware. I enjoy this part of potting enormously, but not as a steady diet. This type of work may also show up on the site occasionally.
Visit my online gallery to see more of the porcelain work and view images in larger detail.
